About the Journal
Stemming from the Archiv für Orientforschung journal (active in the field since 1923), AfO Reviews is the first fully online, Open Access, dedicated resource for reviews of monographs published on topics from Ancient Near Eastern Studies and related fields.
Specifically, AfO Reviews publishes reviews in the field of ancient Near Eastern philology (Sumerian, Akkadian, Hittite, Hurrian, Elamite, etc.), themes including the religious, legal, economic and social history of the ancient Near East and Egypt, as well as Near Eastern archeology and art history. Geographically, the focus is on Mesopotamia and its neighbours in the Levant, Syria, Anatolia, Elam, etc., e.g., regions in which cuneiform writing was used at certain times and, secondarily, more remote peripheries (Egypt). The chronology span ranges from the 4th to 1st millennium BCE.
