This paper examines the forms of violence in Imre Oravecz's novel California Quail from the perspective of interculturality. The consequences of the continent- and culture-shifting of the Árvai family in the novel not only make visible the violent manifestations of abuse and atrocities, but also interpret the problems of translatability between different languages within the scope of the exchange relationship of violence. The study also interprets the abandonment of home and of one's own culture as a result of intercultural exchange. Finally, the problem of emigration at the end of the 19th century is illustrated through the example of a multi-generational Hungarian family.
