Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

  • All submissions must be original pieces and should not have been published or be under review elsewhere.

  • Articles have to be written in English or German

  • Open Access Statement: Keshif is an open-access journal, which means all its content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Keshif provides open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Keshif operates under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. This allows others to distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon the work, even commercially, as long as they credit the authors for the original creation. All authors publishing in KESHIF accept these as the terms of publication.

Format Guidelines 

  • Keep formatting to a minimum (i.e., no indents). 
  • Standard style: Times New Roman, 12-point, double space, hyphenless justification 
  • Keshif uses the Chicago Manual of Style (17th edition), footnote and bibliography citation style.
  • Footnotes: Use footnotes, not endnotes, keep them to a minimum. 
  • Spacing: Space once after (most) punctuation. Space once after initials (J. W. Redhouse) but not inside abbreviations (e.g., i.e.). 
  • Please provide 5 keywords and select them carefully - the keywords from all articles in a volume constitute the volume’s index! 
  • Your keywords should include the century from which the text originates and the genre (e.g. letter, poem, tereke, etc.)
  • Length of submission: max. 2,000 words, including title and references.

Illustrations 

  • Submit photos/pdfs of facsimiles as separate files. 

Transcription: 

  • Mark the beginning of new lines in prose texts with //
  • Do not insert punctuation marks in the transcription, when there are no in the original text.
  • Do not use apostrophes after proper names > Meḥmediñ, not Meḥmed’iñ
  • Determine the  meter of poems and reproduce it as in the following example:

  • Please provide all the names of Libraries (also) in English – this makes them easier to search in our database.

We publish: 

  • Hitherto unpublished short, complete texts found in manuscripts, such as documents, letters, poems, stories, marginal notes, anecdotes, recipes, private notes, etc. 

We do not publish: 

  • Texts from Ottoman periodicals, printed books, and standard forms (e.g. passports).  

There is no text too short to be published in KESHIF!
