This article was originally written as a contribution to the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the European Association of/for Chinese Studies held in November 2025 in Paris. It contains reflections on my own path to the EACS, the problem of the use of European national languages in Sinology as well as the history of the Association since the 1990s. At the end it discusses the necessity for maintaining relations between European and Chinese Sinological academic circles.
