About the Journal
The Rural History Yearbook (RHY) has been published since 2004. It has established itself as an academic forum for environmental, economic, political, social and cultural rural history. So far, thematic volumes on the following topics were published: Writing agricultural history (2004), agricultural politics (2005), agricultural systems and environment (2006), political culture (2007), labour relations (2008), interaction or urban and rural areas (2009), agrarian property (2010), landscape perception (2011), micro-history (2012), food (2013), migration (2014), commons (2015), animal production (2016), plant resources (2017), mediality (2018), urban agriculture (2019), city-hinterland relations (2020), and genealogies (2021).
The RHY’s editorial board is international. The core editorial team is based at the Institute of Rural History in St. Pölten/Austria.
Since 2020 the RHY is published as an open access online journal and at the same time as a printed version with the Studienverlag. The issues from 2004 to 2019 also available online (see archive).
We accept submissions in both English and German. We also welcome submissions that are outside an issue’s thematic focus. These articles, after having been positively reviewed, will be published in the open section of an issue.
All research papers will be peer reviewed double-blind. All essays undergo an internal reviewing process.
