Living archives for the future: Ein Plädoyer für das Sammeln und Archivieren von feministischen Zines

Abstract

Von der historischen Frauenbewegung bis zur gegenwärtigen queer-feministischen Bewegung haben Feministinnen ihre Anliegen in selbstpublizierten, oft handgemachten Zeitschriften, Pamphleten und Flyern kundgetan. Feministische Zines (selbst-produzierte und -vertriebene Magazine) zeigen eindringlich, dass sich viele Mädchen*, junge Frauen*, LGBTQI und marginalisierte Menschen in der Gesellschaft und in den Massenmedien nicht gehört oder miss-repräsentiert fühlen. Sie produzieren daher ihre eigenen, alternativen Medien, in denen sie selbstdefinierte und ermächtigende Bilder, Inhalte und Netzwerke entwerfen und gesellschaftliche Kritik üben. Insbesondere in der „Riot Grrrl Bewegung“ ist eine Vielzahl an Zines entstanden. Ein Teil davon fand Eingang in die „Grrrl Zine Sammlung“ an der Universität Salzburg. In diesem Beitrag lege ich dar, was sogenannte „Grrrl Zines“ sind, warum wir sie sammeln sollten und welche Archive und Bibliotheken dies bereits tun. Obwohl es verschiedene Herausforderungen dabei gibt, argumentiere ich, dass Zines als wichtige, wenn auch unkonventionelle, chaotische und schwierig zu archivierende Artefakte und als ‚living archives‘ von Archiven und Bibliotheken gesammelt werden sollten.
