NB. In order to encourage free and open dialogue, our panel- and discussion-based events are not available for post-event viewing. While IntEg tries to ensure as many people as possible can attend our events by alternating time zones where possible, event times are governed solely on location and availability of the speakers.

Autumn 2021: Interdisciplinary Egyptology introduces a new series of public events!

We Need to Talk: Contemporary Conversations in Egyptology.

The We Need to Talk series brings together leading specialists to discuss hot topics in Egyptological research, and in particular themes that relate directly to current global issues. The aim is to inform, educate, raise awareness, and to encourage deeper interdisciplinary engagement because – we need to talk.

As with all IntEg events, participation is free and open to the general public (via Zoom). Audience members will be invited to submit questions for discussion via social media before the event, and will also be able to ask questions to the experts during the live events.

Events:

Conversation 1: 

The use and abuse of aDNA in Egyptology, with Dr Sonia Zakrzewski (Associate Professor of Archaeology at the University of Southampton) and Dr Shomarka Keita (S.O.Y. Keita; Research Associate, Smithsonian Institution; Research Associate, Institute of Historical Biology, College of William and Mary).

Conversation 2:

Climate Science in Egyptology, with Prof. Nadine Moeller, Prof. Joseph Manning, and Dr. Jennifer Marlon (Yale University).
