The aim of this paper is to provide new empirical insights into the connection between
German acquisition and intersectionality. To this end, autobiographical narrative interviews
were analysed using narrative analysis. We reconstructed how language learning
in the context of flight is perceived by the narrators. The data shows that ‘mental health’
as a result of flight experiences and ‘parental status’ strongly influence the acquisition of
German combined with other categories of difference. It shows the need to continuously
incorporate intersectionality throughout the entire research process, as a theory, in the
data material and as a characteristic of power-critical research.
