October 2024 marks the anniversary of Hamas’ horrific terrorist attack on the Israeli civilian population. In addition to the resurgence of the Middle East conflict and the suffering of countless innocent people, the seventh of October 2023 has also brought with it some clarity in the West: anti-Semitism must be combated more than ever, and not only in its most obvious manifestations. With the help of Stephan Grigat’s anthology “Criticising anti-Semitism in the present / Kritik des Antisemitismus in der Gegenwart” (2023), the roots and motifs of Islamic and anti-Zionist anti-Semitism can be traced, with the latter also repeatedly resonating in post-colonial discourses. The contributions collected here are accompanied by internal and socio-psychological explanatory models in the context of conspiracy theories and narcissism. It also addresses the question of what can be done to counter anti-Semitism in education and politics.
