Abstract

This article historicizes the spatial, emotional, and material knowledge practices in women’s/gender studies of the 1970s and 1980s, situating them within the synchronous contexts of the time. It suggests that focusing on sensory experiences and aesthetics is key to understanding the specific nature of politics and academia at that time. This shifts the focus away from clear timelines, breaks in memory and forgetting, and towards the reflexivity and self-reflexivity of politics and academia.
