Abstract

The question of the emergence of the 'new' is not raised very often as an explicit problem. The article has two primary aims. Firstly, the notion of the new will be defined in terms of normal science and various aspects of 'novelty' will be introduced. In a second step four contexts of analyses are proposed. For each of these contexts sketches of explanations and models are described. This should allow a common view on the fields of knowledge, sciences, technology, and all other domains which produce new ensembles permanently.
