Abstract

To preserve and visualize digital cultural heritage of Vorarlberg, a digital repository called volare based on PHAIDRA was installed by the Vorarlberger Landesbibliothek in 2015. After successful managing technical and legal challenges volare has become the central image database of Vorarlberg, currently containing 19 collections including over 215.000 photographs. Visible cultural heritage motivates institutions as well as personal non-corporate collectors to contribute their collections to the library or as a partner publish their high-quality graphical material via the library. For the future the Vorarlberger Landesbibliothek plans to add regional texts to the collection, such as digitized or born digital newspapers, journals and monographs without copyright.
