Abstract

Data stewardship (DS) is establishing itself at Austrian universities as an indispensable pillar of research data management (RDM), with a strong focus on the implementation of the FAIR principles and open science strategies. As part of the Shared RDM Services & Infrastructure project, a representative survey of 38 specialists from 20 public universities in Austria was conducted in June 2025 to assess the current state of development, organisational integration, and framework conditions of data stewardship.
