Challenge and opportunity: the Vorarlberg state library during the COVID-19 pandemic

Abstract

This field report depicts various courses of action employed for the prevention of problems resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic at the Vorarlberg State Library. In the days before closing the library, we were busy with the necessary preparations and continued to be so throughout the following months. It became clear early on that communication was key: it was the golden thread connecting everything. This report discusses difficulties encountered by and opportunities that arose for the Vorarlberg State Library in the face of the global crisis. It depicts measures taken, such as establishing various channels of communication, ensuring fast reactions to new situations and adapting new services, while always keeping in mind that our regulatory framework stems from our position within the state administration.
