Abstract

Around the historical year 1968, young comic artists enact media competence as rebellion, appropriation and emancipation. Through their self-determined rebellion, they revolutionised not only the international comic scene with European impulses, but also narrative forms and drawing styles of the medium itself. The accompanying radical developments in narrative modes, publishing formats and distribution systems take place in the context of shifts in media policy, which are supported by a generation of comic artists who have already grown up with the medium as readers. At the centre of these developments is the French artist Moebius, who already achieved notoriety with his early work and has clearly and lastingly shaped the implementation of emancipative strategies within the medium comic on the most diverse levels.
