Abstract

Stephen Greenblatt seeks to fathom the current triumph of authoritarian politics in the dramas of Shakespeare. He examines the rise, politics and fall of their tyrannical figures in order to sharpen the understanding of the dynamics of the despotic in ways that may be of use today.
