The renowned literary scholar Franco Moretti, who is mostly associated with quantitative models of textual analysis, presents stimulating approaches to modern classics in his essays. Across the arts, Moretti examines notable examples from literature, film and the visual arts in a comparative manner, opening up fascinating insights into works only supposedly already exhaustively treated for both experts and a broad readership. The Romance scholar Lorena Pircher places Moretti's texts, originally conceived as lectures, in the context of his innovative scholarly work and elaborates on the strengths and gaps of his investigations.
