The concept of "active media work" has for decades carried the label of a "royal road", i.e. the ideal way to achieve media competence in educational settings. However, if one compares the profiles of two typical media activities of adolescents in an educational setting, it becomes clear that this "ideal way" lacks the theoretical foundation for linking individual projects at a curricular level. It is proposed to start a discussion on this issue.
