In his PhD thesis, Pascal Rudolph deals with the diverse uses of music in Lars von Trier’s cinema. The director draws on already existing compositions and endows them with (new) meaning in the production of the films. Rudolph’s contribution not only fills a gap in the research on Lars von Trier, but also provides fundamental work in this field by interweaving film and music studies.
