Abstract

“Has slavery ever really ended?” is, as Judith Butler stated, the central question that drives Saidiya Hartman. Also in her book “Wayward Lives”, translated into German by Anna Jäger, this question is the determining factor. Here, Hartman reconstructs and imagines biographies of Black women and queer people, thus opening up a space of resistance and possibility for them with the help of “critical fabulation”.
